Kimber Nanna, MA, LCMHC-A, NCC

Education: Kimber holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a Creative Writing
emphasis from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington and a Masters of Arts in
Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Lenoir-Rhyne University. She recently
completed post-graduate studies in Narrative Medicine, also at Lenoir-Rhyne. She has
additional training in Written Exposure Therapy and Improv for Therapists.

Clinical Practice: Ms. Nanna is a compassionate, creative professional whose clinical
mental health practice is centered on her clients’ needs and the therapeutic relationship,
unique to each individual. Her approach is eclectic, person-centered, and relational. She
draws heavily from the principles of narrative therapy, while also using such modalities
as mindfulness, expressive arts, improv/play therapy, and other approaches as
appropriate.

Kimber believes that we are all deserving of, and have the capacity for, living a healthy,
fulfilled life. She believes deeply in the resilience of individuals and considers it an honor
and privilege to walk with clients as they navigate life’s challenges, helping them to
discover their own potential and authenticity along the way.

Kimber works with adults and groups, always with the intention of meeting them where
they are in their journey. Her approach is grounded in kindness, respect, and humor.
Kimber believes that the therapeutic process, when taken seriously, can also be very
engaging and fun for the counselor and the client. She considers herself a lifelong
learner and is passionate about advocating for marginalized and underserved
populations.

Professional & Related Experience: Prior to becoming a therapist, Kimber spent 20+
years working her way up the corporate ladder as a web content strategist. Primarily
focused on helping brands tell their own unique stories, this background continues to
inform her work, as she believes at heart we are all storytellers. Kimber is also a
songwriter and performing musician and has a special interest in helping individuals
navigate challenges with creative and performance anxiety, as well as making space for
their creative pursuits amid their work, familial, and other responsibilities.

Clinical Team Membership: Kimber is a member of Presby Psych’s LGBTQ+ Sensitive
Counseling and Psychotherapy Team, Trauma Recovery Counseling and
Psychotherapy Team, and Cancer Services Team.

Location: Kimber’s office is at our Uptown location, and she is credentialed with Aetna
and BCBS. She also has availability for individuals with out-of-network benefits and for
those in need of a sliding-scale fee.
