Kenya Henderson, DHA, MSW, LCSWA
Licensed Clinical Social Worker Associate
Education: Dr. Henderson earned a Doctor of Healthcare Administration from Virginia University of Lynchburg and a Master of Social Work from Temple University, where her training emphasized culturally responsive, strengths-based approaches to mental health and wellness and helped shape her clinical approach to supporting individuals navigating trauma, life transitions, and systemic barriers to well-being. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts in Child and Family Development from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, is a Certified Professional Life Coach, and earned a Certificate in Nonprofit Management from Duke University.
Clinical Practice: As a clinician, Dr. Henderson brings a compassionate, culturally responsive, and strengths-based approach, offering a nontraditional and down-to-earth experience. Known for being approachable and easy to talk to, she creates a safe, supportive, and judgment-free space where clients can be fully seen and heard. She works collaboratively with each client to develop strategies that fit their lives, experiences, and goals. She works with individuals navigating anxiety, depression, workplace stress, church hurt, grief and loss, men’s and women’s issues, and relationship or divorce challenges, helping clients build resilience, insight, and a greater sense of balance in their lives.
Kenya provides services to individuals and couples, ages 14 and up, offering support for a wide range of challenges. She specializes in anxiety, depression, workplace stress, grief and loss, relationship and divorce concerns, men’s and women’s issues, and spiritual grief, including church hurt. She is ready to work with clients who are new to therapy as well as those familiar with the process, creating a safe and welcoming space for growth and healing.
Professional and Related Experience: Dr. Henderson brings over 20 years of combined experience in clinical, community, and nonprofit leadership. She served and directed the Families Together Transitional Housing Program at YWCA Central Carolinas for more than 15 years, helping families experiencing homelessness achieve stability and self-sufficiency. She has overseen two Mecklenburg County programs serving vulnerable populations. Kenya further serves as a Medical Social Worker for the Advocate Health (formerly Atrium Health) Emergency Department, where she addresses various social determinants of health while connecting patients to resources and support. As the founder of Tranquil Talk with Kenya LLC, she further provides consultation, clinical and nonclinical services, drawing on her broad experience to help clients navigate challenges, build resilience, and achieve meaningful growth.
Location: Dr. Henderson is currently accepting clients at our Uptown location. She works with Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna, offers sliding scale fees, and accepts Out of Network (OON) and private pay, ensuring access to care that meets a variety of needs.
